Special Kids in the Community

This summer, while in India, we are partnering with Sarah’s Covenant Homes, and we want to tell you all about the incredible children we have grown to love! Theresa, one of the staff, is adamant about taking the children out into the community.  So … On the very first day we met the kids, we took a few of them out to eat at a restaurant.  What a treat! We often take the kids who cannot walk around the neighborhood in a wheelchair. We accompanied several children on their first day of school! (They have lessons at home too, but a new public school director...

Storms in India

It is monsoon season here in India and so far we have not had a lot of rain. I was thinking about storms last week and how powerful they are and all the fresh growth that can come out of a storm as well as all the damage that they can do.   The more I thought about storms and India I realized that there is a lot more than just physical storms that occur. There are a lot of spiritual storms, some of which are pleasant and some of which are difficult to handle.   Sometimes you can feel this gloom in the air that seems to rest heavy on your heart and...

Temples Built By Hands

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.” – Acts 17:24 This verse comes from one of my absolute favorite passages in the Bible, where Paul addresses the Areopagus in Athens. I find it to be so incredibly beautiful, and just completely packed with Truth. And what a passage for a nation such as India! It seems there are “temples built by hands” everywhere you turn. We get the privilege of preaching to and praying for a different remote village church every night, and I...

Children are a Blessing

Well, these last several days have officially forced me to step out of my comfort zone. It’s been three days and already I’ve preached, called on the Lord for healing, anointed a woman with oil (that was interesting) been peed on, and showered with a bucket full of water. But despite it all, I feel so blessed to be here. The people at the churches and the orphanages we’ve been helping at are so excited for us to be there. They’re so accepting and forgiving of our cultural differences and fopas.   Most of you probably know not to use you’re left...

Speaking with your eyes

We have been in India for 4 days but it already feels more like two weeks. Already God has taught me so much. Sometimes there are things in life that you just have to do, like eat with your hand, ride in a rickshaw, and worship with people who speak another language.   It is custom in India to put the honored guests at the front of the church so that they are looking out at the crowd and everyone can see them. It is the honored seat. The first service we attended, this is where we sat. The women sit on the floor of the church and the men sit at the back. When looking out to...

Inspired by faith…

The past week of traveling has been hard and long.  We have only been settled for two days, yet I feel like we have been living in India for weeks.  Today was our first day of ministry, and it was very draining.  I am not blessed with public speaking, but I do believe God has blessed me with the capacity to love.  It was not religious spirituality that Jesus used during his life on earth, but it was love and truth that were his main tools.             Today was our first day at the children’s...
