Not Shaken

I walk through the gates of SCH. So many children run up to the team to be loved on. One little girl runs full speed ahead to be hugged. She’s caught by a team member and swung up into her arms. This little girl is so insistent in wanting to be held. If somebody is not paying attention to her, she will push other children away. If somebody calls to her, she will run so fast and jump into her arms. She’s always running to someone so that she can be hugged and carried and loved on. The thing is, is that she’s blind. She can’t see where she’s running to. But she runs...

home sweet ongole

I should start by explaining my journey here. It was quite the adventure. We flew from the Atlanta Airport to Newark, and then boarded our flight to Mumbai. We considered it our last 14 hours of luxury. Movies we were too embarrassed or too broke to see in theaters were at our fingertips. We could drink water and eat ice without a care. And the food? Sarah’s Covenant Homes

In conjunction with ICM (India Christian Ministries), is  an organization geared toward special needs orphans, known as Sarah’s Covenant Homes. This is the heart and passion of Sarah Rebbavarapu, who along with her husband also founded ICM. These homes are places where children and teenagers with special needs are taken care of. Due to the harsh realities of a culture that is primarily driven by perfection, individuals with physical and mental disabilities are seen as an eye-sore and subsequently cast aside. Sarah has found a place in here heart and in the grand scheme of “Kingdom”...

It takes a village

UNICEF estimates that there are over 25.5 million orphans under the age of 17 living in India.   That means there are more orphans in India than there are people living in Texas or New York!  And only about 60% of these orphans aged 10-14 go to a school of any kind; many are left to fend for themselves. India Christian Ministries believes it is the duty of the church to take care of the orphans, the widows and the poor, and that a good education is the best way to break the cycle of poverty and instill hope for this generation and those to come.  So they have established...
