Children are a Blessing

Well, these last several days have officially forced me to step out of my comfort zone. It’s been three days and already I’ve preached, called on the Lord for healing, anointed a woman with oil (that was interesting) been peed on, and showered with a bucket full of water. But despite it all, I feel so blessed to be here. The people at the churches and the orphanages we’ve been helping at are so excited for us to be there. They’re so accepting and forgiving of our cultural differences and fopas.

Most of you probably know not to use you’re left hand much while you’re in India. However, it is much more difficult than it sounds. We don’t eat with silverware, and it is very difficult to scoop up rice, and tear bread etc. when you can use only one hand…

Going to the orphanages has been a really great experience. The kids are all so wonderful. The orphanage we’ll be working at the most is a home for children with special needs, called Vcolony. We visited there for the first time on Saturday. It was a really neat to see them. when we came in they were all excited and they all came up to say hello. They all wanted to be touched and held and loved. It’s really beautiful to be there, and to be the one they’re asking to love them. One of the little girls came up to me and said hello…. I’ve learned how to ask ‘what is you’re name’ in Telegu. Her name is Alesa. She held her arms up to me so I picked her up. She looked around bashfully, and then put her hand on my cheek and kissed my face. It was so precious. She held her hand in front of my face and made the sign for I Love You. They’ve been teaching them some American Sign Language. I was really blessed by that. It seems like such a small and insignificant thing, but it touched my heart. I’m really excited to back and work with them and build relationships with them. They’re all so sweet, and it’s amazing to see how they express their emotions across the language barrier.

Then Jesus said: let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matt 19:14
