Hello from Ongole!

This has been such an enriching experience so far and I can’t wait to grow even more.  We’ve met so many people who are on fire for God and I hope to learn so many things from them. The people on this team are amazing, also. I can’t wait to get to know them more, and I just know that by the end of the summer we will be like sisters. The people at Indian Christian Ministries, which is the organization we’re working with, are amazing. They are hoping to reach all of the villages in the state of...

Ongole…yeah ive never heard of it either

Hello from India! I am so glad to finally have a second to sit down and let you all know what the Lord has done over the past few days. Our team has been going non stop since tuesday morning at 6:30 am. We traveled for literally 48 hours to get to our final destination, Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. We are so thankful for the Lords protection in all our travels so far. I am sure you are all wondering what i will be doing now that i am here.  My team and I will be working for the first fours weeks in Sarah’s Covenant Home (SCH). SCH is an orphanage for special needs children and it has...

home sweet ongole

I should start by explaining my journey here. It was quite the adventure. We flew from the Atlanta Airport to Newark, and then boarded our flight to Mumbai. We considered it our last 14 hours of luxury. Movies we were too embarrassed or too broke to see in theaters were at our fingertips. We could drink water and eat ice without a care. And the food? If you are ever traveling internationally, I hope they serve Indian food, because somehow they have mastered the art of pre-packaged never-expiring fare. And everything is vegetarian. I promise I’m not exaggerating – it was...

Safe in India!

We spoke with the team leaders and they’ve all arrived safely in India. After a few long travel days they’ve finally arrived at their ministry site and will be settling in these next few days and getting some orientation from their hosts. Expect to see some blogs rolling out in the next few days as they find internet. Thanks for all the prayers for this team! Real Life field support team

Walking Tacos & Banana Boats

Coming to training camp I really just didn’t think I would like it. I honestly had no clue as to what we would be doing but my two pictures of how it would go were (1) sitting around a fire singing songs and holding hands, and (2) living in a cave and fighting bears. It was neither of those. However, it has definitely been an interesting experience. Looking back on everything now it feels like training camp was such a blur. One of my absolute favorite things that we did was build our own shelter (that we would be sleeping in for the night) and sitting around a campfire eating walking...

Adieu

God worked through me to serve 83 kids with disabilities. It was the most stretching experience in my life. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM almost everyday, I had kids hanging off my arms or jumping on my back. At first this was incredibly overwhelming, but by the end of the trip it was normal. I learned to embrace their love instead of sending it away. It was a struggle not to yell "Po!", which means go in Telegu, each time a kid decided to cling to me. It is almost sad to say that the only words I learned in Telegu were "Wanda-nalu, agoo, po, and kucho", which mean...
