Hello from Ongole!

This has been such an enriching experience so far and I can’t wait to grow even more.  We’ve met so many people who are on fire for God and I hope to learn so many things from them. The people on this team are amazing, also. I can’t wait to get to know them more, and I just know that by the end of the summer we will be like sisters. The people at Indian Christian Ministries, which is the organization we’re working with, are amazing. They are hoping to reach all of the villages in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This organization is the one who runs the orphanage, called Sarah’s Covenant Home, or SCH.
The apartment we’re living in is very nice. Two bedrooms, two baths, an office, a living room, and a kitchen with Wi-Fi in it make for a very nice “roughing it” experience. However, there are drawbacks. I’m currently writing the blog in the dark heat since the power goes out unexpectedly during the day and night throughout India. We make our own food for the most part, so it’s exciting to see who all on the team can cook.
On Friday we took the day off to get acclimated to the culture and try to get over the jet lag (which is really brutal after 45 hours of travelling, including 15 of those hours on one plane ride alone). We went shopping for Indian clothes; I brought one full set of clothes, and then another that had to be made. When I said made, I mean what I brought was just cloth that will be made into pants, shirt, and scarf.
SCH, which is the orphanage we’re at, is simply amazing. I just love all the kids there and I can’t wait to see how God is using them to glorify Him in each of their lives.
