Almost everyday our team has been working at the V. Colony
or victory House, the orphanage
for special needs children. It is difficult to see what these children have to
ovecome and the disabilities that they deal with on a daily basis. Although
this is heartbreaking to see at times, its so amazing to see what a little
extra time spent with them can do and make a huge difference. As I was playing
with a little blind girl one day putting together strands of beads and puzzles,
the way her mind works and the potential that you can see in her is inspiring.
She could put together an entire strand of beads just by feeling them. Another girl at the home who really
just makes me smile is a girl named wendy. Her smile and positive attitude just
brightens my entire day. When she can be so happy, laughing and smiling it
helps me to remember to keep that same attitude. It is hard not to get a little
discouraged now and then but its little things like this that God reveals to me
to keep me going.
God just has showed up in so many ways it is crazy.
He is revealing opportunities of ministry everywhere we go.
I am realizing how the smallest actions can affecet so much.
On one of our days off for rest as we were driving to beach
and passed by field after field of people working in the sun all day we felt
that we were being called to go back and help women to harvest peanuts for a
morning, so we did. The women work all day in the fields picking the peanuts
and putting them in big bowls. They must harvest thousands of peanuts in one day.
I could barely finish one bunch by the time they had done five. For six to
eight hours of sitting in the blazing hot fields all day they make about 70
rupees or a little over a dollar American. Because of the language barrier im
not sure what they were talking about, probably just wondering why a bunch of
white people wanted to sit and pick peanuts with them but I highly doubt that
they ever complain. This really put things into perspective for me, I always
knew that places like this existed but to step out of my American bubble and
see it face to face makes it that much more real.
Its so cool to see the opportunities that god gives us to
bring Him to other people. when we just open our eyes to them they really
aren’t that hard to find I guess I just never really was looking before.
