Little Kingdom Eyes

Today marks week 1 of being in India!  We are currently partnering with the ministry: Indian Christian Missions, at Sarah's Covenant Home – a home for beautiful children who have been discarded and are often seen as curses to their families. People in India look down upon children with disabilities and do not want any association with them. At SCH the children's care takers are widows, another group of people who are looked down upon in society and have very limited employment opportunities.    We will also be in...

Unspeakable joy

Joy. It is a word that means different things to different people. I have learned so much about joy since being in India. The people I am in contact with every day enjoy the things in life that people in America might take for granted. I see kids playing with old tires and laughing and waving because today they got their picture taken by me. They are not phased by the poverty and piles of trash that surround them. I love the way that India is opening my eyes and my heart to what God couldn’t show me in America. The children at Sarah’s Covenant Home are truly beginning to...

On the Road again

Apparently 11 months and 12 countries wasn’t enough…  Apparently God has placed India in the books for me this year.  So here I am… I’m writing from Ongole, Andrah Pradash, India.  I have the privilege of leading 6 college-aged girls as we play and show love to 100 orphans in a nearby orphanage home.   Home seems like so long ago now and many time zones away… it was just a little touch down with friends and family for 2 weeks, just enough time to unpack, pack up again, and hit the road again.    And then I flew down south...

Wandanalu!

After spending around two days in travel (45 hours), we made it to Ongole. My feet were swollen from travel, and our team was exhausted. Soon after we arrived, we were blessed by an Indian meal, and introduced to SCH (Sarah’s Covenant Home). Erin, our main contact at SCH, shared with us the heart and work of the home.   SCH works to meet the needs of 82 –soon to be 97 special needs orphans. In India, children with special needs are seen as a curse and burden to their parents, and often are seen as worthless.  SCH takes these otherwise disregarded children into its...

Bring Your Dancing Shoes to Training Camp

I look around; some people are dancing, letting the music pulse through their bodies, others have their arms raised and are enthusiastically swaying back and forth, while still others are on their knees. They’re all praying out loud at the same time and singing. They’re worshiping. We’re worshiping. Behavior like this has been surprising and was at first disconcerting for an extremely conservative, “frozen chosen” church-going girl like me. But one thing is clear: the spirit of God is alive and present in our 20×20 square foot worship hall....

No other name worthy to be praised

Hello friends! Just a little more about what is happening here in crazy India. India is such an amazinfg place and i am enjoying more each day! Sunday we went to a local church that is part of the Indian Christian Ministries. It was such a cool experience for me.  When we walked into the church the pastor made us sit on the stage at the front of the church as a way of honoring us. The service hadn’t even started and there were people kneeling and praying to the Lord. This was just the beginning of their spirit filled and devoted worship we would witness. The service was...
