What we do Together

Was spending time with Jesus this morning and this is the schedule He made for us.   We sense the beauty of Your Holiness We find the place where stillness meets joy; reverence compels action. We are soaking up the riches of His presence. Lavished in His love.  Completely awakened to who He is in this day. We are refreshed by the presence of Jesus.  We give all our tasks, concerns, plans to Him and carry a gracious load of exchange – easy and light. We are illuminated  branches abiding in the vine, ingrafted and finding new life, along with the dynamics of...

Lice are Love

Kids are gross. There’s no doubt about it. Imagine every bodily function you are capable of having happen all at the same time, to multiple children, all in the same room. Yet the only thing separating kids from adults hygiene-wise is that we are just better at hiding our grossness. My lovely teammate Francesca suggested this profound parallel to me one day when I was complaining about cleanliness: we are gross to God because we are covered in sin.  Who wants to pick up a smelly, drool-covered, needing-a-diaper-changed baby? You Know You’re in India When…

You know you’re in India when…   You drive less than a mile and the rickshaw driver charges you 20 rupees and you feel totally ripped off, and then you remember that’s not even 50 cents.   The power goes out while in the middle of cooking dinner but you are un-phased because your headlamp is in arm’s reach.  You were expecting it.   The power goes out in the middle of the night and stays out and you have no air-conditioning but you are un-phased because this is what you signed up for. They don’t have hot water but you don’t care...

oh the things we do for LOVE

India is beautiful. Although I have only seen a small part of it, I know I will likely return. I must admit that my love of this place has grown. Initially I expected to be enamored with India immediately– this was not the case.  The development of my love has been a process…much Like most things in this country. Interacting with the kids at the orphanage has helped my love grow as well as the support and encouragement I receive from my FABULOUS teammates. In addition, the food here is the best…I Have never eaten so much spicy food in my life…American Food might...

If I Were A Butterfly

“If I were a butterfly, I’d thank you Lord, for giving me wings. And if I were a robin in a tree, I’d thank you Lord that I could sing. And if I were a fish in the sea, I’d wiggle my tail and I’d giggle with glee. But I just thank you, Father, for making me, me. ‘Cause you gave me a heart and you gave me a smile, you gave me Jesus and you made me your child. So I just thank you, Father, for making me, me.” I sing this song to most of the children at Sarah’s Covenant Home. I feel that they need to hear this, even if they don’t understand...

Little Kingdom Eyes

Today marks week 1 of being in India!  We are currently partnering with the ministry: Indian Christian Missions, at Sarah's Covenant Home – a home for beautiful children who have been discarded and are often seen as curses to their families. People in India look down upon children with disabilities and do not want any association with them. At SCH the children's care takers are widows, another group of people who are looked down upon in society and have very limited employment opportunities.    We will also be in...
