Fireproof

Saturday night we went out to the beach about 30 minutes from where we are staying for a bonfire. One of the girls who lives in the apartment we are staying at chose to celebrate her birthday at the beach. So off we went with yummy Indian food, cake, party hats and all. We get there and although it is pitch black it is beautiful. You can hear the waves roaring and the amount of stars you could see was staggering. But as we were sitting there eating I was looking at the fire and I felt there was some how a spiritual parallel there. God has been doing that a lot this trip throwing things in my mind in crazy situations at crazy times. And I’ve been thinking about it since Saturday trying to work out in my mind what spiritual parallel God wanted me to see in the fire.

I realize now that it has a lot to do with our relationship with Him. We bought wood to bring to the beach with us, which helped us start the fire. But we soon ran out of that wood. Our drivers went off looking for wood to maintain the fire and soon came back with driftwood. Which was slightly damp but not soaked. And a huge dry branch that looked almost like tumbleweed. The driftwood burned but not that quickly cause it was still damp, but the tumble weed caught fire immediately and went up in flames.

I’m pretty sure I could take this in a couple directions but God’s telling me here to be saturated in Him and His Word. Wet wood doesn’t burn dry wood gets consumed quickly by the fire. We need to be in Him everyday soaking in His truths, promises, and love or we too will burn. (I’m not meaning literally, I’m not going in the direction of our destiny for eternity) I’m talking about on a day-to-day basis. If we are in Him everyday then when the sparks come we will be able to resist getting completely caught up and consumed in a fire.

It’s very much like the movie Fireproof, in one scene they say fireproof doesn't mean a fire will never come, but that when it comes you'll be able to withstand it. I can not give you a special formula that will keep the fire away, and unfortunately immersing yourself in God doesn’t mean the fire wont come. But if you remain in God and in His word when the fire comes you won’t be consumed in it and go up in flames.
