We went down to Sarah's Covenant Home (SCH) yesterday for the first time. It was absolutely incredible. The children are so…(insert positive adjective here) I don't even have words. Their eagerness to love and be loved, the smiles from ear to ear, both shatter, mend, and warm your heart. Shatter it because you don't see how anyone could not want these kids, but mend and warm because you know that God gave them Sarah. Who took them out of the state orphanage and gave them a loving home. She loved them and they are flourishing,
After we left SCH we went punjabi shopping. It was overwhelming and exciting at the same time. The fabric sets were so beautiful but there were so many. I ended up with 3 outfits which are at the tailor being made.
While we were at the tailor getting measured some children came asking us for money. We didn't give them money but Hannah, Mack, Molly, Crystal, and Sarah sat and talked to them. They sang itsy-bitsy-spider, taught them to count and learned a few things in Telugu.
And then I took out my camera and they came alive X10. They posed, danced, and even challenged my photography abilities by jumping and doing cartwheels. It was awesome to see them come alive. They became children, truly children. They chased us as we left not asking for money but shaking our hands, saying goodbye, and thanking us.
I don't think I'll every forget the one little girl saying (using your best Indian accent) Thank you auntie, and pointing at my camera.
In everything that happened yesterday I realized something …and please forgive my cliche but all you need is love. The children at SCH are there because Sarah loved them, the children at the market laughed, danced, and sang because we simply loved them. We can give people money, food, and clothes but as Christ said "man does not live on bread alone"
Maybe we need to look beyond peoples earthly needs and feed peoples souls.
